Odense Wood Innovation Center
2026-03-10 14:57:33

Odense Wood Innovation Center, a brand new office complex located in the city center, is not only the largest wooden office building in Denmark, but also a pioneering example in the field of large-scale wooden structure construction. The building incorporates 1600 public officials under its umbrella, achieving seamless integration of modern office and surrounding environment through climate friendly design.

The core highlight of the project lies in the 31000 square meter solid wood structural system, which can reduce 5400 tons of carbon dioxide emissions throughout its lifecycle compared to traditional buildings, becoming a national benchmark for low-carbon public buildings. The exposed laminated timber columns and partially orthogonal laminated timber (CLT) floor slabs are not only the core load-bearing components, but also enhance the sensory quality of the space with natural texture, and realize the environmental value of carbon storage.

The exterior is made of reddish brown recycled aluminum, echoing the historical texture of the surrounding brick buildings and achieving visual harmony. The vertical depth is finely designed through the sunlight path, forming a natural passive shading system that can balance sufficient lighting and comfortable room temperature without the need for mechanical devices.

The architecture is based on the core concept of "coexistence of work, city, and nature", and constructs a flexible and adaptable spatial framework. Two C-shaped office wing buildings extend towards the east and west respectively, with floors gradually changing from the third to the sixth floor, ultimately intersecting at the central wing building on the seventh floor - where conference rooms are centrally arranged to maximize cross departmental knowledge sharing and collaboration. The conference center, cafeteria, and public front desk on the first floor serve as a link between the building and the city, seamlessly integrating urban vitality with the internal garden; The niches and leisure areas on the exterior facade further enhance the interaction between the office space and the public domain.

The building takes the center as the high point and gradually retreats towards the surrounding areas, giving rise to diverse outdoor spaces such as rooftop terraces, elevated courtyards, and green courtyards. These areas not only provide support for biodiversity, but also create ideal places for office workers to relax and hold outdoor meetings, connecting work closely with nature.
